Temple Bar in Dublin
In heart of Dublin City centre is Temple Bar, a hot spot for all visitors to Dublin. Its small cobbled streets, lined with pubs, restaurants and shops makes it a wonderful part of the fair city.
Named Temple Bar in the 17th Century the area it fell fate to derelict buildings and by the 1980s was near demolished to be replaced by a bus terminal. With protest from residents and traders, who had been attracted to the area by low rental rates, the planned demolition didn’t go ahead.
Today the Temple Bar area is one of Dublin’s most favorite tourist attractions. Thousands of people pass through the Temple Bar every month and becomes very lively at night. It is extremely popular for Hen & Stag parties that occur every week who have a choice of many different pubs and restaurants but still remain in walking distance of their hotels.
The area also houses the Irish Stock Exchange, Central bank of Scotland, Temple Bar Music Centre, Irish Film Institute and Irish Film achieve among others.
Every weekend there is a series of markets within the Temple Bar area such as the Cow’s Lane Market held on a Saturday is a fashion design market. There is also the Temple Bar Food Market also held on Saturday and is located in the Meetinghouse Square. A book market can also be found in Temple Bar Square every Saturday & Sunday.
If you are passing through Dublin it is highly recommended to spend a weekend in the Temple Bar area and be sure to look out for any street performers.
