Food in Ireland has become just as popular as the Irish culture with many people seeking to learn what Irish people eat and how certain meals are created such as Irish Stew or a full Irish breakfast. Irish food today ranges in a wide variety of recipes that can be either easily made at home or created by some of the best chefs that Ireland has to offer.
Even though Irish history seen a famine with potatoes that drove many people from Ireland potatoes, also known as spuds or purdies, is now revived and is yet once again a favorite ingredient for most meals. One thing you need to know about people in Ireland is when they have a serving of spuds its usually a big serving.
Meals in Ireland consist of many different food groups such as vegetables, fish, meat, spuds (potatoes) etc. The most popular being spuds as so many variety of meals can be made such as poundies (mashed potatoes), chips (also known as fries or wedges), jacket potatoes or just plain old spuds. The method used to cook and serve the potatoes is usually decided on what other types of food will be served such as lamb chops, sausages, peas, gravy etc. The spud is so popular because of how cheap they are to buy and also the many different variations of meals that can be cooked from them.
Full Irish Breakfast
A full Irish breakfast is hearty, tasty meals that will not have anyone grow hungry through-out the day. Although there are many variations of a full Irish Breakfast, which is also known as a fry-up, the ingredients is usually the same such as fried eggs, bacon (rashers), sausages (bangers), fried tomatoes, white & black pudding, toast or brown bread served up with a large pot of hot tea.

Irish Stew
Irish stew is an extremely old Irish traditional meal that is still very common to this day in Ireland and is usually made on a Saturday or a damp cold day to help heat up the body. Irish stew consists of potatoes, vegetables and meat balls boiled together in a large pot with gravy, most Irish people have their own conventional ways of creating a pot of stew but usually the same ingredients is used. Popular in America is Guinness stew but it’s not as common in Ireland except in the old days when it was.

Irish Fries
In Ireland if you ask for fries you will end up with a portion of fries from Mc Donald’s or Burger King. If you are looking for Irish fries in Ireland you need to ask for Chips which are known as Irish Wedges in places like the United States.
To make Irish Chips you basically peal some potatoes and slice them up into thick pieces, just like fries but thicker. Cook the freshly cut chips in a deep fat fryer with boiling cooking oil for 20 minutes or until golden brown, the crisper the better the taste. Chips can be served with a number of different things and a popular meal would be chips, sausages and baked beans or chips, pork chops, onions and gravy.
