Information on Ireland

The Island of Ireland is made of four provinces with each split into counties, 32 counties in total. In 1921, 26 counties split from Britain to create the Republic of Ireland leaving six as part of Ulster that are still ruled by Britain today in what is called Northern Ireland.

Ireland is laid out as follows:

Province of Connaught

Counties include Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo

Province of Leinster

Counties include Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow.

Province of Munster

Counties include Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

Province of Ulster

Counties include Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan and counties that are in Northern Ireland are Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Derry and Tyrone.

Each province and county is represented with their own flag but all fall under the flag of Ireland, the Irish tri-colour – Officially (by law) the six counties of Ulster that make up Northern Ireland fall under the Union Jack of Great Britain and Northern Ireland but this is dismissed my many.

Ireland is located in the far Western corner of the Europe with the Atlantic Ocean on the West side of the island. The climate of Ireland is very moderate but does have a more than moderate amount of rainfall each year.

Farming was once Ireland’s main industry but today that has changed and is now led by services and IT. The main exports from Ireland are computers, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, machinery & equipment, live animals and animal products.

Ireland has a very long history dating back to 600-150 B.C when the first tribes arrived on the Island. Throughout time, it has seen many battles with invading forces but also with many clans that lived and controlled parts of Ireland. The history is rich with events that give an insight on how the Irish culture was influenced and had aged over time.
