The Irish Drinking Culture

The Irish are famous around the globe for their fondness for drinking alcohol and having some of the finest beers, stouts, ales, and whiskeys in the world which are famous throughout. So straight to it lets look at why we are famous for our drinks and pub culture.

Irelands famous pub culture and what its about

Famous around the world for its vibrant atmosphere, good music, drink and food is the Irish pubs. In Ireland there is no shortage of a good pub and it can be sometimes difficult in selecting which one to attend, a good pub crawl is in order if that’s the case. With a great pub culture and an endless list of pubs in Ireland there is plenty to look forward to when visiting the island of Guinness

Guinness Irish stout is good for you

Guinness Irish stoutGuinness is probably the most popular stout in the world and even when it's mentioned a connection to Ireland is automatically assumed by anyone. Although Guinness is so popular its really does take an acquired taste for anyone to drink a full pint of the black stuff. For those who drink several pints in one sitting only knows too well what the day after will bring and we are not just referring to the hangover.

Irish whiskey at its best

Irish whiskey is probably the best and finest whiskey one can find anywhere on earth due to the time it takes to create the spirit, its price and its overall taste. Some of the best Irish whiskeys that are more popular would be Bushmills whiskey, Jameson whiskey and Tullamore Dew (personal favorite) which is found in every bar in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Another popular drink finding its fame across the world is Bailey Irish cream with its smooth yet powerful taste.

Irish Poteen - grow hairs on your chest

Also a more popular Irish drink in Ireland and almost unknown anywhere else is the illegal spirit called poteen, or at least what used to be illegal. Irish poteen is an extremely powerful Irish drink that only the most hardened drinker in Ireland dares to drink, its so strong that its known to cause blindness and sometime even kill people who end up suffering from alcohol poisoning, the reason why it was illegal in Ireland to brew poteen.

The Irish Car Bomb cocktail - its an American thing

Popular in America is something called an "Irish Car Bomb" similar to the "Eager Bomb" which is basically a half pint of Guinness with a shot of whiskey, baileys Irish cream dropped into the pint and is supposed to be downed in one mouthful. Lets get rid of the fiction here, this is not an Irish drink in Ireland and was created by someone within the United States, very few places in Ireland have heard of this cocktail and if they had they will probably refuse to serve it. You can watch the video on how to make an Irish car bomb cocktail.

Most Irish people who drink Guinness in a popular fashion will see this cocktail as an insult to the pint of stout which shouldn't be modified in anyway.
