History of Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has seen some extremely bad days in its time and is classified as some as “the black North” due to its dark history over the many years.

I have finally got round to start articles on Northern Ireland history and although they are basic at the moment as time goes by I will get more in-depth with each topic from the Plantation Settlers into the North to the Northern Ireland conflict.

Castles in Ireland

As I promised I’ll be adding more photos of Ireland and some interesting spots.
This image is a Clan fortress beside Ards monastery in County Donegal. It looks over the mouth of an important waterway that would have been used during attack from the Normans or even the Scots.

Skeleton found from Ancient Ireland

A human skeleton was found this week in Rathlin Island off the County Antrim coast, the remains are dating back approximately 4,000 years ago from the Bronze age. It is said the remains were found in a fetal like position with a food vessel that would indicate a cist burial.

Bloody Sunday - Derry City

The people of Derry marched in their thousands to mark the 34th anniversary of Bloody Sunday which happened on 3oth January 1972.

On Sunday the 30th the Parachute Regiment of the British Army opened fire on a Civil Rights March in Derry shooting dead 13 unarmed civilians.

To do this not one person has been found guilty of the 13 murders or has the British Government admitted that they had done wrong on that day.

As we know Irish History is a very complex topic which dates back to 8000BC. I think its only fair that I update our site in sections covering the surface of each topic involved in our rich history. The latest to be added is Irelands Ancient History which describes how Ireland began as a settlement for new arrivals to the island.
