World Rally Championship In Ireland

The World Rally Championship has finally started in Ireland pleasing fans all over the island who have waited years to see this event in our own turf. With Ireland having the perfect roads for this sport it will be for sure filled with great drama. The head-head opening stage of the WRC was held in the grounds of Stormont located in Belfast. The line-up is made up of local drivers and also some of the best WRC drivers known world over, excellent for such a popular sport.

With 36 World Rally Championship cars entering and difficult road conditions its going to be a very competitive rally. Marcus Gronholm, who was leading the Championship, crashed out when he piled the car into a wall on stage 4 in Sligo, ending up in hospital as he lost consciousness. He’ll probably not return to race on Saturday as he’ll have missed 6 stages so he’ll be finishing outside the points and with Britain left to go he’ll have to really make a great come back or hope the current leaders also crash out in Ireland.

Still plenty of action to see throughout the Ireland Rally race, hopefully I’ll get hold of some footage to post here. I’ve previously posted the Rally Ireland Shakedown Video and the Galway International Rally Video from last year, if interested.
