who has the best Irish Tattoo?
So speaking with some friend today and we got into the discussion of Irish Tattoos and who actually had the best ones, unfortunately it wasn’t me as I personally don’t have one due to my fair skin.
After a heated argument with three friends we came to the decision that I would judge the competition “who has the best Irish Tattoo?” Naturally the location of the competition would be in our local Irish pub over a few pints of Guinness, I was raging that I didn’t have my trusty camera with me as this would have made great print on the Your Irish Blog.
Steve was up first and it didn’t take much for him to get semi-naked to start showing off his tattoos and more specifically his Irish tattoo which consisted of a Celtic Cross with the colour of green and red. The story behind his tattoo was when he was in Toronto, Canada he somehow came to decision of getting a tattoo after a few drinks at a bar – he doesn’t like to admit it but it was all in the cause for impressing a girl…..ejjit. Unfortunately for Steve the wrong shade of green was used and after a few months the color just didn’t look right and why he choose red? We will never know – so -39 points for Steve!
Next up was Dave and his ankle tattoo of an Irish leprechaun – its small but looks really well with the use of Green, White and Orange and I have always like seeing the Irish leprechaun as the fighting Irish. The only negative point I had for Dave was that his tattoo was hidden and he needed to remove his socks for anyone that wanted to see it. Now his excuse for getting the tattoo on the ankle was so he could hide it from his family, a very strict Catholic family doesn’t take to well to having tattoos. So -6 points for Dave for not standing up against his mother and also another -2 points for calling me a pansey for not having a tattoo.
Ben, naturally the winner for his extremely large Celtic Knot on his back with using only the shade of black. He told us this tattoo took over five different two hour sessions and was at a high cost, he wouldn’t share exactly how much.
With a few laughs and a few pints the Irish Tattoo competition went down well with the bar staff and we promised to hold a weekly competition, any excuse to have a drink!!
So what did the Ben the winner receive? Free drinks from each one of us and the bar staff threw in a free whiskey too, thank Joe!!
