Northern Ireland β Republic of Ireland
The unfortunate thing about Ireland is that its split into two parts, you have the Republic of Ireland known as the South and is made up of 26 counties and then you have Northern Ireland which has 6 counties and is ruled by Britain.
At one time Ireland was ruled by the British Empire until a rebellion in 1916 prompted England to hand back parts of Ireland to the Irish but only did so after striking a deal that allowed them to hang onto Northern Ireland.
People seem to think that Northern Ireland is at war with the Republic of Ireland which I have been asked a few times in my travels to different countries, but this is not the case.
Northern Ireland is made up of Protestants, the majority and wants to remain part of the UK, but also Catholics the minority who want a united Ireland.
The republic of Ireland has tried to stay away from the Northern Ireland politics but with so much collusion and corruption from the British Government right up into the recent times the Irish Republic had no choice but to get involved.
Although Northern Ireland is not unified yet with the Republic itβs only a matter of time until the UK removes themselves from the island after all, the fighting Irish has been nothing but a thorn in their side since they first invaded Ireland.
