Irelands heritage, culture and history up for sale

Irish Flag

No it’s not an MP3 of the Soldiers Song, the Irish National Anthem, but its Irish heritage and culture at its finest and its coming up for auction soon. The original hand-written music and words of the Irish National Anthem is being auctioned off in April.

The original work of Peadar Kearney was written on two pieces of paper in 1907 and will probably fetch €1.2 million which is titled Amhran na Bhfiann, The Soldier’s Song. The last letters from the 1916 Easter Rising revolutionaries will also be sold in auction by James Adam & Sons and Mealy`s Auctioneers, Irelands leading Auctioneers.

Not only are these such valuable pieces of Irish being sold of but so are other unique pieces of our heritage such as

- A handwritten letter from Sean Mc Dermotts on the even of his execution which was addressed to the Mayor of Limerick, John Daly.

- Archive papers from the 1880-1916 periods written by Thomas Clarke, the first person to sign the proclamation of Ireland and also his final letter to his wife before his execution.

- A telegram from Duke of Devonshire informing the Irish secretary state that the King of England has granted Ireland its independence, creating the Irish Free State.

- The original Tricolour that was flown over the GPO during the 1916 Easter Rising

- A Collections of Padraig Pearse letters and poetry.

- A typewriter that belonged to Michael Collins

The people of Ireland fear that these famous historic artifacts will be sold off to someone outside of Ireland removing a piece of our Irish heritage and culture from Ireland for good. These important items of Ireland should be placed in the national museum under lock and key for good to allow future generations of Ireland to learn about probably one of the most important era’s of Irelands history.

What I would like to know is what will the Irish Government do about these auctions? Sit back and enjoy the bids go up I suppose! Bertie get your credit card out!
