Castles in Ireland

As I promised I’ll be adding more photos of Ireland and some interesting spots.
This image is a Clan fortress beside Ards monastery in County Donegal. It looks over the mouth of an important waterway that would have been used during attack from the Normans or even the Scots.

Today the fort is in bad condition but the family Clan who originally owned the fort have a campaign to restore it back to its original state, it seem the family Clan members are based all over the world and usually holds yearly fund raising events to raise money towards repairs.

This is a spot that I have been visiting for many years and usually a number of times each month, there is some great fishing spots here.

The day I took this photo we had the family dog with us who enjoys running around causing chaos but this day was different. As we entered the main gates of the fort the dog started pulling back, unusually for his character and as we went further into the ground he started getting more irritated. Reaching the centre of the fort the dog at this stage was getting angry with us and started barking pulling back as best he could; at this point we turned back so not to annoy him further. After this event we are lead to believe this castle is haunted and would explain the unusual character of the dog.

It’s not uncommon for an Irish Castle to be haunted as these buildings have a long Irish history and seen many battles, but this castle I am unsure of at this stage.
