Bertie Ahern Asleep At The Wheel
Sometimes I think that our wee Bertie has his head so far up his backside that he cant see reality, even if he did read the newspapers.
Now, I have meet Bertie Ahern a couple of times in the United States and thought he was a nice man but recently some of his words have made me think twice about him being a complete dunder head.
Not so long ago Bertie said that Ireland is not a safe haven for sexual predators but why is it when I open a newspaper (almost on a daily basis) I am faced with stories of people being raped or children being stalked or molested? There have been stories of dirty perverts from England hiding in Ireland and now we seem to have an influx of foreign nationals also being dirty gobshites, don’t we have enough perverts in Ireland already?
I was reading a story today of the two incidents that happened just off O’Connell Street where a group of Eastern European men raped two girls, with one of the incidents happened during the day. What really disgusts me was that one girl was screaming for help as she was being pushed along the street but not one person in the street came forward to help her out, although one person did phone 999. Whatever happened to the day when people would scramble to anyone seeking help and deal it there and then?
Wake up Bertie we have a problem here!

Unfortunantly, that’s the way our world has become these days. It’s not really as bad as the media would like youto think. They usually have their own agenda and will publish stories that follow that, or at the very least are spun to prove their point of view.
But not helping someone getting raped on the street? There’s no excuse for that.

But your own dunder head is up your own rearside with this. For a start, what can Bertie do about the behaviour of a few moronic sexual predators. He can’t drive about all night in his little wee van looking for them, can he? Secondly, why pick on the foreign nationals? We have plenty of stories of our own like this.
We have a problem in Irish Society because as we get richer we get more atomised. This is the same as in all other societies … France, Germany, US, UK, Italy etc. … all pretty much the same set of problems. Real crime stats between them all are pretty much level pegging, though of course the US excels in gun crime and the Italians in sexual crime.
Its complicated. If you have a solution then, the next time you meet Bertie, I am sure he’ll be listening.
