A Day Without an Immigrant

This Monday is to be marked as ‘The Great May 1st Boycott’ or better yet ‘A Day Without an Immigrant’ in America which will have millions of immigrants take to the streets. Students will not be at school, factories will be shut down, trucks will be stopped and of course my local corner shop Indian friend will refuse to open.

The organisers of the boycott are demanding amnesty and for the chance for over 10 million people the right to US Citizenship. The support for Monday’s boycott is coming from all sectors and not just from legal or illegal immigrants in the U.S.

Something tells me if you are an illegal immigrant in the US at the moment it is not wise to attend the rally’s but rather show your support by going to the pub for a few pints instead of going to work.

The US immigration authorities may do a swoop on some of the smaller protests making it easier for them to raise their deportations numbers, it wouldn’t be a first for them.

If you have legal status in the US and plan to attend the protests make sure that you have any legal documentation required to be in the US on you as a precaution of being checked by US authorities.

Thankfully I am 100% legal as I stated on previous post and although there are no protests in my area it still could be a day of boycott for me, I hear it’s to be a nice day on Monday.

I think its ironic the term boycott comes the name of an English landlord named Charles C. Boycott who once lived in Ireland and who refused to lower his rent under the Irish land reform. The Irish protested by refusing to work for him and to allow the use of services such as mail delivery etc, this was named boycotting.
