1916 We Shall Remember

Mentioned on an earlier post was the 1916 Easter Rising which was a turning point for Ireland’s history.

This weekend will see the 1916 Easter Rising parade take place in Dublin with 2500 members of the Irish Defense Forces, Garda and United Nations veterans taking part. The parade will make its way through the streets of Dublin to the GPO which was the HQ for the Easter Rising.

The Flag of the Republic of Ireland, the tri-color, was raised to full mast at the start of the 1916 Easter Rising with Padraig Pearse reading the Proclamation of the Irish Republic outside the GPO. This was a symbolic move to tell all that Ireland has reclaimed its land back from the British.

The symbolic features of the 1916 Easter Rising will be repeated durings Sunday’s event but this time to honor our fallen heros.

The Tri-Color will first be lowered from its mast on the GPO with the Proclamation of the Irish Republic being read in full and the laying of a wreath by Mary McAleese, the Irish President. A minutes silence will held to pay respect for all who died during and after the Easter Rising with the Irish National Anthem being played after.

Let it be a proud day for Ireland even though we just auctioned the items from the 1916 Easter Rising.
