World Rally Championship In Ireland

Thrown into Sport | No Comments »

The World Rally Championship has finally started in Ireland pleasing fans all over the island who have waited years to see this event in our own turf. With Ireland having the perfect roads for this sport it will be for sure filled with great drama. The head-head opening stage of the WRC was held in the grounds of Stormont located in Belfast. The line-up is made up of local drivers and also some of the best WRC drivers known world over, excellent for such a popular sport.

With 36 World Rally Championship cars entering and difficult road conditions its going to be a very competitive rally. Marcus Gronholm, who was leading the Championship, crashed out when he piled the car into a wall on stage 4 in Sligo, ending up in hospital as he lost consciousness. He’ll probably not return to race on Saturday as he’ll have missed 6 stages so he’ll be finishing outside the points and with Britain left to go he’ll have to really make a great come back or hope the current leaders also crash out in Ireland.

Still plenty of action to see throughout the Ireland Rally race, hopefully I’ll get hold of some footage to post here. I’ve previously posted the Rally Ireland Shakedown Video and the Galway International Rally Video from last year, if interested.

Bunch Of Thyme Home Video

I’ve recently been in touch with someone who uploads videos onto Youtube and found this excellent footage in his collection. I don’t know much about the girl performing the song but for those interested the song is originally by Foster & Allen and called Bunch of Thyme.

As you can see the girl in the video is extremely talented and has a brilliant voice, great to see such a poetic song being performed so brilliantly.

I received news tonight that a good friend of mine was in a serious car crash and although I have no clue how bad of a condition he is in I’m somewhat relieved it wasn’t on Irish roads (he is in the U.K.)

Easter Sunday In Ireland

Thrown into Traditions | No Comments »

Are there any traditions left in Ireland when it comes to Easter? Personally I believe it still is a popular time as it has been in the past. I was surprised to see so many people not eat meat on Good Friday, including myself, but also that pubs still remained shut.

A Great Result For Ireland

Thrown into Sport | No Comments »

Great result yesterday with Ireland beating England 43 – 13, great match and exciting to watch. With so much media hype surrounding the fact of England playing in Croke Park and God save the queen being played I am glad the game was the main focus point in the end.
